From: http://www.dominorecordco.com/1. Where were you born and grown up?
I was born 1964 in Cologne and I still live here.
2. What kind of music did you listen when you were teenager and which artists or music do you think you've got influenced by?
From 1976-1979 i was a great KISS Fan. Every carnival I went out with Make up and clothes like Gene Simmons of KISS. But in the end of 79 I changed to Disco-Music and learnd dancing by myself. In 1981 Ihad my first contacts with New Wave,Electronic and the "New German Wave". And iīm still influenced by Bands like: The Residents,Renaldo and the Loaf,Der Plan,Andreas Dorau,Telex, Bene Gesserit,Picky Picknic and some more. But iīm still a Dancer.
3. What the city of Koln looks like? Is it a good place to live there? Explain about Koln compared to other cities or good thing or bad thing........
Yes it is a good place to live. Itīs a normal German 1.000.000 Million People City with a big church in the middle.I live in the Center of the city and thatīs not so big, I can do everything by bike. And I love our local Beer itīs called "Koelsch" A very fast Beer! I canīt compare Cologne with any other city because every city is different, sometimes better sometimes worser.
4. Tell me how you get your 1st album released from A-MUSIK.
After the cassette Erdrauchharnschleck(released 93 on Entenpfuhl) and the Split-Lp Burgfensterrhytmus- kuckloch together with Masters Cosmic Music(released 94 on Gefriem) I gave new Material to Georg Odijk heīs the owner of a-Musik. After listening to it he said, ok letīs make a record. All covers were handmade. That was in 1996.I was very lucky because it was my really first Album.
5. What do you usually do except working at the label or making sounds?
Iīm not working at the label, Iīm just doing music, itīs Georg's label.
6. What does Schlammpeitziger mean?
Schlammpeitzger is a little fish and Schlammpeitziger is my music projekt. You see the little difference? Itīs the i behind the z. It sounds more melodic to me. I took this in the mud living fish because he can change his breathing, from breathing through his lung to breathing through his ass. Thatīs true!
7. What do you usually get inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from a lot of things: Food,Love,Fishing,Walking,Music,Beer,Walls and much more but not from churches and other peoples footsmell!
8. Your sound has deep and experimental elements, but it is still accecible or even pop. Is it difficult to wrap the experimental thing in pop approach?
No itīs not difficult because it just happens. I think it depends on what track you are working some tracks need it some not.
9. There is also a nostalgic element in your sound. Have you intended to make music which has 70's or 80's tastes or nostalgic atmosphere?
No I never intended to do music like this. 1) My first 70īs electronic kraut record was a Harmonia cd and I bought it in a big record store here in Cologne at the 2nd January 1993 because Frank Dommert (Entenpfuhl) told me to do that because this music is very near to my music. I never heard about that music before but I was doing it since 3 years. 2) I think it has a lot to do with my main instrument, itīs a Casio 230 s from 1986 I bought it in this year and I still use it. And a spezial delay programming makes some tracks a bit trippy. But thatīs all. I donīt have any synthesizer from the 70īs or any other instruments of this time! Just simple Keybords and since two years a SP 808 from Roland, itīs a sampler, effect and 4-track in one. I just make my Schlamm Music.
10. Tell me your process of making sounds. Do you use computer to do it?
See above
11. There are a kind of homemade pop electronica artists like Sack&Blumm, Wunder, and so on in Koln. Do you have sympathy with them? Is there anything to make people produce such kind of music in Koln?
Yes, a lot of sympathy with a lot of people here. With Joerg Follert from Wunder I had a Band called Halīs Dream (89-90) but they wanted me to learn notes and I said Fuck you. And then I started Schlammpeitziger. Yeah Sack is a nice person and musican just as F.X.Randomiz, Jan Werner, Kandis, Marcus Schmickler........... No there isnīt anything to make people to produce such kind of music, perhaps itīs the Kölsch.
12. Do you like ELECTRONICA like Autechre, Boards Of Canada...etc? What do you think about them?
Yes, there is a lot of good stuff out there I like very much. Electronic music is a wide field right now. I like it if people create their own style , their own kind of music, whatever it is. My personal favourite right now is Vert because he makes a good intelligent mix of Experimental, melody, noise and Pop music.
13. Do you have any policy or concept in your sound?
Itīs the music by itself, to develop it more and more and to learn more about the sounds and the ways they can go with me in the Future. If you want to call this a concept.
14.Tell me about Holosud. How have you started it with Felix? Jan Werner (Mouse on Mars) was the man with the idea to bring me and Felix together.
So I brought my stuff to Felix and we started. And it worked from the very first moment. It was the big Question, how to bring my Low-fi equipment together with Felix Hi-fi equipment. But no problem. We just did it.
15. Did you have any concept for Holosud?
Yes their is a concept. Do what you want and try to make it different. And for live-concerts we wanted something totally different. Not only two guys on stage behind their synths,no good old show elements. I have build some selfmade instruments and a disco-helmet and created a special dance for it. We wanted to bring some performance back in Electronic music. And people always liked it very much.
16. Are you going to continue Holosud? or is it one and only project?
Yes we want to continue Holosud. But their will be nothing released before next year. Because first we have do it.
17. I heard you like fishing as I can tell from the record cover of 1st album. Do you get any inspiration of music from fishing? What do you usually get inspiration from?
Yes I love fishing, and if there is time I do it. The photos on that cover are made on Tobago, the little sister island of Trinidad. We lived their at a guy named Black Pirate, and his friend is a fisherman called Fish King took me out for fishing. Never catched so much big fish like Baracuda,Kingfish,Tuna and much more.
18. Tell us about your future plan. After touring a little bit more I want to work on my next record and do some Holosud tracks with Felix. And I want fish a little bit more, make holiday, drink Kölsch and get older.
