bad timing

[ text about: bad timing ]

We're very sorry to announce that tomorrow's Brainwashed
night with V/Vm at The Portland has now been cancelled.

On Sunday, Thighpaulsandra confirmed to us that
he was pulling out due to unresolvable technical issues.
Then on Monday night we heard that V/Vm was too ill to come
down and play. With only one live act left on the bill,
we reluctantly decided to cancel the gig at short notice,
something which we don't do lightly and have never had to
do before.

We know that due to various circumstances, people had
already made plans to travel from London or beyond for
this gig and we apologise for the inconvenience caused.
We made the decision to cancel as we did not think it
would work well as a night for Colin Potter, Jon Whitney
or the potential audience, especially since Colin Potter has
a long way to come to Cambridge. We and Jon looked into booking
replacement acts, but despite some interesting (but very
different) offers, given only 48 hours' publicity time,
we decided that this was also not practical.

V/Vm is as frustrated by suddenly not being able to play as
everyone here and has promised to return to Cambridge soon.

Please spread the word to anyone you might know
who was planning to come to this.

thanks

Jo

brainwashed event at bad timing

12/05/04

The Portland
129 Chesterton Road
Cambridge
Start: 8:00
Price: £6 (door)/£5 (reservations and concs)

For those not familiar, brainwashed, based near Boston, USA, is a long-running project including a record label and website creating official sites for the likes of Coil, V/Vm, !!!, Papa M and Kid606 as well as featuring a weekly webzine, video reports and streaming radio. Kevin Blechdom named her version of `I will always love you' `Jon Whitney Houston' in honour of brainwashed founder Jon Whitney.

With associations with Bad Timing also going back a long way, when we heard brainwashed were putting together a roadshow (featuring different artists in different cities in the UK and Ireland), we offered them a free hand to put together a night in Cambridge, and this is the result.

All the shows on the roadshow will be videoed to appear on the brainwashed site as well as in possible feature-length projects.

v/vm
(v/vm test)
We don't honestly know what V/Vm are planning to do, which is exactly as it should be ... Original material, plunderphonics, the Pita/Rehberg&Bauer/Mego-style noise-vs.-music of Sometimes, Good Things Happen, some/all/none of the above. Some irate copyright holders recently caught up with them and they are being threatened with heavy fines, so come down and show your support. The V/Vm shop will also be available, including some special rarities ...

thighpaulsandra
(coil, spiritualized)
`Thighpaulsandra' came into being during collaborations with Julian Cope, with whom he shared a love of krautrock. As well as recording solo he has been a member of Coil since 1998, featuring in their return to live performance and on their Musick to Play in the Dark releases amongst others. He is also a member of Spiritualized. Tonight's gig sees the debut of his new five-piece band. With the cancellation of the Throbbing Gristle's RE:TG festival, this is is an exclusive chance to see Thighpaulsandra.

colin potter
A rare appearance by Colin Potter, who has worked for more than 20 years in the UK and international experimental underground, collaborating on and engineering the output of diverse projects such as Organum (David Jackman with such names as Robert Hampson (MAIN), Jim O'Rourke, etc.), Ora, Current 93, and Steven Stapleton's legendary Dada / krautrock / psych collage project, Nurse With Wound.
