new emoticon releases

news from emoticon

russ gabriel's 'the other side project volume one' is russ’s first album for emoticon – and the first artist album for the label. intended to showcase some of his more electronic productions - from heavy broken beat workouts to more jazzy affairs, with a respectful nod to old-school detroit techno - the album is a diverse affair and will appeal to open-minded music lovers everywhere. as a bonus for those who missed russ’s previous 12” on emoticon, flip down to break, these three tracks are included on the cd version.

the album release will also be preceded by a limited sampler 12”, featuring masonette alongside a remix of aldeburgh by yotoko, aka domu and dave farlam. masonette has already been aired by gilles peterson and benji b on bbc radio one and 1xtra, and yotoko’s mix of aldeburgh is sure to rock many a dancefloor this winter.

the album sampler is released nov 3, 2003, with the album released dec 1, 2003 (japan) and jan 2004 (uk/europe/usa).

also surfacing on nov 3 is a new 2-track 12" from otomi. their previous emoticon release – zusammen / vertrauen, back in 2002 – received a response that far exceeded our expectations. the two tracks of stripped down, soulful, broken electronics were a hit with djs including chateau flight, recloose and carl craig, and the record went on to be one of emoticon’s most popular releases to date. now their unique sound gets another much needed airing with two new lovingly crafted slices of emotional techno.
