The Electronic Bible volume 2 Launch Party !!

[ text about: The Electronic Bible volume 2 Launch Party !! ]

‘The electronic bible’ is a repository or archive of cutting edge electronic music.
The ‘archive’ comes in a series of compilation albums and singles called ‘chapters’.
The project has been launched by WLM (White Label Music), an independent label headed by Ann Shenton, former art terrorist and founder member of Add N To X.

The release of ‘Chapter 2’ earlier this year is heralded by the first of a series of electronic bible nights worldwide at Corsica studios, Elephant & Castle on Saturday the 15th of July.

The current compilation features music from across Europe and the U.S, with a heavy emphasis on sex city (Sheffield), the natural parent of electronic music.

The current compilation features artists as diverse as Momus, Billy Ray Martin, Hiem and Pam Hogg, 22 tracks in total.

The opening show at Corsica Studios will offer an un-paralleled evening of electronica from the Avant Hard brigade, featuring Large Number (Ann Shenton ex Add N TO X & Mick Bund ex primal scream/Felt), Man from Uranus ( formerly from Broadcast), Anat Ben David (Chicks on Speed with her new project), No Bra (topless techno) and accompanying DJing by Ann Shenton.

Theremins, analogue, drums, homemade oscillators and sonic flesh shredding…. be afraid very afraid!

Jigoku + Caesar Romero

[ text about: Jigoku + Caesar Romero ]

JIGOKU - the Japanese term for hell and a fitting moniker for the wild audio visual soundtrack session orchestrated by London DJ’s Lovely Jon (OMSK) and Cherrystones (Twisted Nerve). Mixing deep, dark soundtrack cuts to a bizarre montage of weird and wonderful film clips from exploitation obscurities around the world, you will enter a deranged rollercoaster ride of crazed celluloid enveloped by a thunderous sound system. A truly mesmerising cinematic experience, whereby music and film collides in to a chaotic cacophony of madness. You have been warned…..

East London DJ Lovely Jon created Jigoku 15 years ago in ambient back rooms as a reaction against the mellow ‘chill out’ clubbing crowd. After freaking out the ravers with a unique combination of shocking exploitation movie footage and heavy soundtrack action, Jigoku forged onward working alongside pioneering film club deviants OMSK in pre-famous Hoxton and Italian soundtrack legend Alessandro Alessandroni at the ICA. This brand-new show for 2005 at South London’s Corsica Studios is business as usual – raw, uncompromising and astonishing. Always striving to ‘keep it real’, Jigoku remains an underground institution that continues to confront and challenge.

Powerhouse DJ Cherrystones is that shining diamond amongst rare vinyl collectors. His capacity for digging up unheard sonic jewels is legendary, enough for figures such as David Holmes to entrust him with compiling the psyche-funk collection Hidden Charms (an NME 2004 album of the year). From his seminal collaborations with Andy Votel’s Twisted Nerve imprint (home of Badly Drawn Boy) and extensive remix work (receiving respectful nods and airplay from Giles Peterson and Andrew Weatherall), Cherrystones has been an integral part of the Jigoku machine for the past 10 years now (has it really been that long?).

Take a large dose of sleazy fuzzed up garage punk style attitude. Mix with the spooked atmospherics of a haunted carnival, topped off with spiteful electronics and you have the grand spectacle of archfiends Caesar Romero. From their groundbreaking collaborations with baroque theatrical troupe The Dragon Ladies to their latest live incarnation ( featuring ex-members of Gallon Drunk) this scuzzy crew know how to keep their unique take on horror rock low down, dirty and shameful. They’ve just scored the soundtrack to Magnus Irvin’s erotic psalm to sexuality Prayer Cushions of the Flesh (which is receiving its UK premiere at Corsica as part of the Jigoku programme).

What the papers say –

“Audio visual Mayhem” – The Guardian

“Ghetto Bunkum or fleapit art? You decide” – Time Out

“Dischord inferno anyone?” – Metro

“A mecca for soundtrack obsessives” – ID

“A barrage of audio visual extremities” – New Musical Express
