"Via a Network of autonomous spaces and arcadian outposts located in and around Finland's major cities, a new generation of musicians has emerged to fuse the DIY aesthetic with traditional folk forms and the liberation theology of noise and improvisation."
The Wire magazine - 'Squaring the Circle: the Finnish Underground' (12.04 / issue 250)

[Fonal in London]

[no.signal] is presenting one of the most innovative and challenging label around with its first ever showcase in London after appearing at Scotland's Subcurrents in Glasgow last year. ES, ISLAJA and KIILA will be launching their European tour at St Giles-in-the-Fields, a parish church in the heart of London's West End built in the Palladian style in 1734.
As they defined the 'new weird Finlandia' sound, Sami Sänpäkkilä aka ES - the sole trader of Fonal - and friends are heading south to show us the warmth and simplicity of their unique musical approach clearly set as being the contemporary Finnish Free-Folk style.

+ 9.00: ISLAJA
+ 10.00: ES

DE SONIS VOL1: LEAFCUTTER JOHN Plays 'The Forest and The Sea'

[ text about: DE SONIS VOL1: LEAFCUTTER JOHN Plays... ]

[about DE SONIS]

DE SONIS - 'about sounds' - is a new monthly micro event curated and produced by london-based [no.signal] hosted by Columbia Road/Flower Market's beautiful space The FleaPit. De Sonis wishes to present an alternative space to live music where the performance room is separated from the social area, one not excluding but completing the other. Its principal aim is thus to invite audiences into limited "listening sessions" (maximum 50 people capacity) at The Pit while the lounge (FleatPit) will be defusing a pre-selected playlist curating by [no.signal] and the guest(s) artist (s). The music program will range from experimental electronics to field recordings passing through improvisation, avant-folk and more as it evolves.

[DE SONIS Volume 1]
To inaugurate and launch De Sonis, [no.signal] has invited long-time collaborator Leafcutter John to present his latest album. "The Forest and The Sea" is a dynamic hybrid of electronic and acoustic songs, it tells a true story through the use of haunting vocals, traditional instrumentation and field recordings. In this work, one can grasp the extent of Leafcutter John's musical kaleidoscope and his consolidated approach to folk music, processed field recordings and electronics.

John will be joined by guest vocal artists who appear on the album
