Utrophia/4th harmonic presents intercontinental meeting between UK and US improvisors featuring...

Talibam (Members):

"Ornette Coleman playing on Soft Machine's Fourth in hell"... Talibam!'s brand of shitstorm skronk is grounded in more intelligent thought and dynamic group exchange than many of the more hyped transmissions from the contemporary American 'noise' underground."

Peter Evans:

'As a performer, Evans has been working to break through the technical barriers of his instrument and enjoys playing with steady configurations of improvisers; each band explores a specific concept or style as much as possible.'

Songbird

[ text about: Songbird ]

Temperatures play on Friday at Songbird, Russian Club Bomonti's, 8pm til late. This record review is from http://www.4thharmonic.com:
"Temperatures are a duo from London, beginning their mutant strain of dirt-rock in 2004. The freaked-out space jam presented on this disc entitled "Kakorr" was recorded on the fly sometime last year in a boho garret in South London. Bass fuzz and synth tones collide saturating all detail over some serious voodoo percussion. As the track breaks down the whole mix transforms into red-hot lava and all hope for reaching land is lost. This is their second appearance on record and is even more fried than their self-titled debut 7" released last year."

New LIMN EP from www.4thharmonic.com

The second release from 4th harmonic is an EP by London-based instrumental avant-rock group Limn, whose five members comprise a brass section of trumpet and trombone in addition to guitars, bass, drums, vibraphone, and synth. The new EP demonstrates the different aspects of Limn's sound, which pursues a sometimes angular, often beautiful and always intriguing approach to rhythm and composition. The EP, featuring a new recording of ‘at the dance of confused particles’, maintains Limn’s use of polyrhythmic intricacies, in a track first released on a pocket-sized CD single.

Limn’s influences are varied and eclectic, taking their inspiration from and yet transcending a wide variety of musical idioms. The opening track on the EP, ‘joyranch’ references a post-punk tradition with its metric propulsion and taut rhythm section, cultivating an obstreperous brass melody. Following ‘at the dance of confused particles’ is a track redolent of the electric fringes of jazz with its pointed kinetics and 6/4 timing, whilst the EP culminates with a sparklingly upbeat disco-tinged track that reaffirms Limn’s polyrhythmic inclinations.

http://www.utrophia.net - “…with a unique blend of brass which can move from ska-like to mexican melodies. soaring and uplifting with joyous gusto, limn excite with every tune.”
