Pilchard - Amy - The album is coming!

My long awaited debut album is finally going to be released. I've decided I'm going it alone and releasing it on my own label "Brainfuk" http://brainfuk.com . The tracks will be initially available to purchase for download only. I'm not exactly sure of the release date yet. Obviously I have some low cost marketing type stuff to do before releasing it but I'll keep you posted.

I'll give you a breif rundown of what's on it:

This album was compiled about a year ago from tracks I have made over the past five years. The plan for me is to get this out of the way and work on an album as an album (if you get what I mean).

Most of the tracks feature pretty heavy distortion and background noise. This is done on purpose but unfortunately it does have the drawback of not being very acceptable by some. Mind you, I never was big on squeaky clean pop music! It’s also best appreciated on high end audio equipment, as there’s a lot going on in most of the tracks and it does require good thorough listening.

Tracklisting and descriptions:

1) Miss Conception
This track is a nice easy and slightly whimsical opening to the album. The whole thing is bit crunched and topped with a slight distortion for good measure.

2) Used To Be
This track is a gentle melodic tune featuring a field recording in what used to be my back garden running throughout.

3) Fear and Loathing (in Burgess Hill)
A very “big” sounding tune with a bit of bit crunching, heavy beats and some nice synth effects. Arguably one of the best tracks on the album.

4) Convolution Revolution
A heavy percussive track featuring a twisted acid bassline and chopped amen.

5) Amy
The title track of the album. This track is a nice melodic tune with simplistic drum programming and a repeating melody. There is a nice crunchy finish to it, created by minute gaps in the audio stream at variable lengths and intervals.

6) Putaway
A DnB tune featuring samples from a porn movie, some nice brass and bass and heavy emphasis on the “It Takes Two” break.. Some nice drum programming can be found here!

7) Screaming Abdabs
Bitcrunching again is a heavy feature on this scary and somewhat cinematic track. There are some nice clicky percussion parts in this one which require a decent audio system to really shine. The majority of the track is based around a very heavy chopped break that kicks you in the nuts HARD.

8) What Clipping
This tune abuses the 0db threshold on most CD players, creating a nice digital distortion that sounds different on just about every CD player. It was done as an experiment to find out exactly what would happen when doing this. It’s very loud and features some nice grainy distortion, heavy synths and breaks. There also some nice melodic elements, including a little distorted guitar.

9) Non Cosmopolitan
Partially a spoken word track, partially a melodic ambient tune featuring some nice simulated input noise and clicky percussion over a simplistic 808 beat.

10) I Store
This tune starts with a nice broken FM synth intro, moving into a kind of twisted acid playground with a strangely enticing yet simplistic 808 backbeat.

11) They Come The Harder
Another nice melodic track, featuring a subtle jazz vocal and an overcooked reverb over some simulated input noise.

12) 4000 Orgasms
An evil, fast paced break beat orientated track with some scary synths and a very chopped up vocal sample

The Horse by The Chap (LCD36) [ review of: The Horse by The Chap (LCD36) ]

Probably one of my favourite CDs. Certainly my favourite live act. And an advance notice for you, The second album Ham ( Released 23 May 2005) is even better.
