Disaster Action Kid by 5dots (ADJ001)

Disaster Action Kid by 5dots (ADJ001) [ review of: Disaster Action Kid by 5dots (ADJ001) ]

Just listening to this for the first time having got my hands on the promo... Nicely fresh and messy.

A lot of mashed up DSP beats, with heavily distorted tunes... Sounds like 5dots has been searching through a lot of data files they aren't supposed to for interesting 'found' sounds. Some real 8-bit aesthetics here.

Other comments from the room; "a bit hellfishy," "irritating but nice" and "ooh, a squelch." Something for those who like their music noisy, beaty and broken. Recommended.

state51 extension #1

[ text about: state51 extension #1 ]

Full details for our first event:

Thursday 25th March, 2004

LEAFCUTTER JOHN, Hackney (planet mu)

Generating roughed up textures, smooth ballads and pounding beats, Leafcutter John takes you on a journey from his tits to your ears.

ALEXIS O'HARA, Toronto

An outfitted girl appears, seemingly in a trance. She plugs herself in. Sounds produced entirely by her mouth - are looped, layered and manipulated creating an ephemeral soundscape. She is robosapien, a (wo)man melded to her machines.

MUGISON, Iceland (Lifelike)

Mugison is a one-man band from Iceland - a singer-songwriter with a computer, described as being somewhere between Tom Waits and Mum. He released his excellent debut "Lonely Mountain" last year on Lifelike, part of the Magic and Accident organisation (who happen to be state51 conspirators).

Time: from 8pm, Thursday 25th March 2004

Door tax - £5 (or £3 if you email in advance to extension@state51.co.uk)

Location - the state51 factory, 8-10 Rhoda Street (off the top of brick lane), London E2 7EF
