press release - Copper Sulphate Crystals
One anonymous man from the Isle of Wight, a synth, an acoustic guitar and a computer, producing beautiful, warm, cinematic music. This is atmospheric, monochromatic psychedelia, that feeds from the unintentionally surreal properties of soundtracks from old movies and enchanted TV shows. One minute, the music can be drifting gently out of control, the next it condenses into vintage romance. Sharp transitions, intimate production and minimal, emotionally charged slow motion melodies come together into some of the sweetest electronica around. Although there are loops-a-plenty, there are no samples of other artists' work here. Formaldehyde plunders only his own creations and has developed a very personal sonic palette. Frail and eroded pianos, strings, mellotrons and mono-synths play in sparse hazes of manipulated tape hiss, pops and misaligned low resolution loops.
