press release - Funkin' Motion
Marrying contemporary dancefloor producers to a Parliament-style, jazz-funk seventies supergroup heritage, Outer Recordings presents the electracoustic "funkin’ motion" album, a unique live excursion taking in styles from house to breakbeat.
This first CD from Outer Recordings brings together the initial 11 tracks to come from the electracoustic project’s process of recording live jams to DJ beats. The first three vinyls in introductory support of the CD have already been released to great critical acclaim. These include the Kerri Chandler mix of the "Pacific Coast Highway" jam, the Funky Lowlives version of the vocal led "Universal" as well as the Meat Katie / Alpinestars double header.
The current, hugely popular and well received, Blaze mixes and dubs of electracoustic’s "So Close" was released mid June 2003 are continuing to raise the profile of electracoustic, both in the UK, Europe and beyond with its silky smooth vocals and style.
Now, with the release of the funkin’ motion mixed compendium album , Outer Recordings looks forward to continuing splash and support from both UK and international live gigs and additional vinyl releases from the album.
The formula: The electracoustic project selects a crop of the best dance producers on the planet and commissions beats to which various well known muso’s take a hand at jamming live. Imagine getting Bootsy Collins on stage to improvise with Roy Ayers, all jamming to beats by Masters at Work. This is the ethos of electracoustic. The possibilities for the continuation of the project are innovative, exciting and provide a fresh approach to live recordings performed in the modern day setting of today’s club scene.
Amongst the core of musicians that have contributed to the first electracoustic album, "Funkin Motion" so far include Simon Bartholomew of The Brand New Heavies, Nick Seymour of Acid Jazz’s Akimbo, sessions players from Incognito, and Jamiroquai, and Aurora Dawn, who’s worked with Roots Manuva and Nightmares On Wax.
In addition, players who are sporadically recruited into electracoustic’s circle of musicians include the likes of Robin Lee from Faze Action, Duncan Mackay, trumpet player with Primal Scream, Ian Mckenzie, the rhythm section from Dub Consipracy, Gary Danks from the Funky Lowlives, all keeping the line up fresh for the live performances for the continuing growth of the project. All of the vinyls thus far have been exquisitely packaged with metallic Outer sleeves and bespoke inner sleeves. The album is set to continue this trend with a design package in keeping with the refreshing initiative of the electracoustic project.
A work continually in progress or project of evolution, no electracoustic performance is ever the same, nor does any release revisit old ground. It is this commitment to innovation and excellence of material, which marks electracoustic way out, far from the madding crowd.
