press release - Rnd_0.34873349921

This compilation was originated to be a series, the RND series. RND because the music contained within the discs is a diverse (and if one was to analyse specifics, quite RaNDom) selection of current (and diverse) electronic music. It wasn't intended to be exclusively limited to electronic music, and not all of the sounds on the CD were created via electronic means; it just so happened that the artists featuring on the CD sound pretty damn electronic.

The idea was to make this series frequent, collecting together artists known and unknown from various labels (and without labels) and to bring them together, to level the playing-field, and produce a high quality product for a cheap price. We could bore you to death on this subject, but we won't. Please, just enjoy the comp.

On with the artist info: sybarite is also known as Xian Hawkins, a touring member of the Silver Apples during the mid 90s and recent 4AD signing. Having released one album on the Temporary Residence label and numerous 7"s, Xian is a multi-instrumentalist who rests comfortably between downtempo electronic and modern chamber music.

No doubt everybody in the world knows eu, but in case you don't they are an electronica duo from St Petersburg, previously known for their highly complex DSP and glitch-melodic trickery, and now moving deeper into bass and warped-melody orientated sounds, signed to PAUSE_2, believe it or not.

metamatics is Lee Norris, previously signed to the seminal Clear label and now working with Hydrogen Dukebox, and running his own label Neo Ouija home of some of the finest electronica gems around right now. After just one listen to his track on the RND compilation, it'll be in your head for days.

All the way from Japan is com.a, who has self-released an album on his own Notek label and has also had releases on Fat Cat (a split 12" with Duplo Remote) and is now working with Kid606's Tigerbeat6 label. He was one half of the Rom=Pari duo who recorded on the Sub Rosa label.

quinoline yellow is one day expected to release on skam.. he played at last years (not so) 'incredible warp lighthouse party' and has played many high profile live electronic events throughout the UK, and also contributes a track to the Cottage Industries comp on Neo Ouija..

wauvenfold are signed to pioneering new label, Wichita, home of Her Space Holiday, some bizarre Ruby remixes and err other stuff. Wauvenfold seem to have really hit the nail on the head when it comes to producing incredibly clean sounding and perfectly produced electronic music. And their releases seem to come in some of the best packaging around!

andreas tilliander is a multi-talented artist who specialises in music constructed of clicks; with full-length releases under his belt on Mille Plateaux, Raster Noton (as Mokira) and a track on Fat Cat (also as Mokira). He is currently living in Stockholm but is looking to relocate.

zan lyons is renowned for his harsh Ambush / Praxis style über-breakbeats, but here he takes the pace down a stage for a wonderful ambient outing, which still manages to sound pretty grating. He has worked with labels Moshi Moshi and Foundry, where he releases his debut album ŒDesolate' last year. He is currently working on the follow-up to the said album.

fantastic new-on-the-scene bristol lad, theboylucas, recently released his debut lp on Output Recordings to muchos critical acclaim. Lucas is the king of bedroom recording, taking samples from various sources in his surroundings such as dogs, answer machines, drums, various instruments etc. while constructing his tunes electronically in a rugged but beautiful manner.

draven tanks might be someone nearly famous in disguise. No more hints allowed.

mati:k has worked with the Sub Rosa label where he released his debut LP of organic and earthly electronic sounds. His contribution to this compilation sees a highly sterile and melody based side to his sound. Masanobu lives in Japan.

novel23 is another of our friends from Russia. He resides in Moscow and has worked with various labels, including Art-Tek and Shaped Harmonics of Russia, and also Pitchcadet. Very much a member of the melody-driven electronica camp, he has been criticised (as many others have) for being 'unoriginal' or 'not breaking any new ground', but every time his sound is pleasing and beautiful. So who cares?

carthage is Damien Bennett, member of Gauge, bass player with 16-17 (Digital Hardcore) and previous Techno Animal collaborator. carthage is his solo project which varies considerably from synthetic beat-orientated sounds in regular patterns to cinematic swooning ambience overlaid with various levels of intricate samples. Some of the most original music we've heard in ages, taking in so many influences.. it is immense.

maps and diagrams is very simple. Tim Martin, aka Maps and Diagrams, is from Peterborough and has an obsession with old analogue equipment and the squelches they make. His sound is a minimal one, utilising basic structures in virtually all of his tracks, yet the sounds are of such beauty.. it just works. Forthcoming compilation appearance on Law and Auder and an LP for PAUSE_2.
