1000 Sounds Lotus, 1000 Sounds Lotus (Mushotohumusic)

text

To say that 1000 Sounds Lotus is influenced by Bill Laswell and the WordSound crew is like saying that Ron Sexsmith probably listens to a lot of Gordon Lightfoot.
1000 Sounds Lotus is unabashedly indebted to a clutch of artists and styles which I also find irresistable, including Laswell and the WordSound, Baraka Foundation and Baboon collectives. As a matter of fact, the final track is simply called "A Tribute to Wordsound". Thierry Boucetta from Nancy in France thus debuts.

Heavy bass, lurching percussion, sample-laden. As much of an "outernationalist" as his mentors, Boucetta lets the sounds of a thousand lotuses bloom. The irresistible pull to Easts both near and far and Africa both north and south are betrayed by track titles which refer to some specific foreign site or culture, including Vietnam, Tibet, Persia, Egypt, Zanzibar, and Japan. In fact, the only exceptions are the WordSound tribute closer and the gently soporific midway breath of air, "She Sleeps in an Ambient Minature".

The result is a glorious mish-mash of cultures, tones and stylings, all held on a tight leash of pelvic rhythms. Vastly entertaining third otherworldy fun fun fun from beginning to end.

Newsflash! In an exclusive to Sonomu, Boucetta informs me that the album is now listed under his new alias "The Orientalist", and that it can be downloaded free of charge here:
