Grinnin'

a review by Lawrence English of
release format Grinnin' by Resin Dogs, Mad Doctor X (CD Album)

text

Based in Brisbane Australia, Resin Dogs are fast becoming Australia's leading Hip Hop act. Their brand of Hip Hop combines the lush sounds of funk with the ever powerful thumping bass. At times, Resin Dogs style is reminiscent of Bill Laswell's more dub oriented projects. In fact the band would not sound out of place of Axiom's Altered Beats compilation or Om Records ever impressive 'Deep Concentration' compilation series. 'Grinnin' is a selection of Resin Dogs more commercially accessible material as well as a track by Mad Doctor X. The disc was released in support of the tour the two artists undertook together. The Dogs are currently recording a new release due in December that represents the bands more up beat side. If you like Hip Hop, with a thick selection of dirty beats then this is a worthwhile investigation.
