FPM is the eponymous debut of a new project assembled by Japanese DJ and producer Tonoyuki Tanaka, an associate of Björk, Deee Lite's Towa Tei and cult Japanese muzacksters Pizzicato 5. Let's be up front: this album is pure froth, lightweight and breezy, but you's be hard-pressed to turn up better BBQ-accompaniment as we gear up for Summer. Tanaka melds Brazilian tropicalismo with burnished, jingle-like drum 'n' bass and techno, all served up with lashings of swinging easy vocals courtesy of, among others, Pizzicato 5's Maki Noyima, the Gentle People's Honeymink & Laurie Le Mans, and Laila France. Watch out for a distinctly Rio take on Joe Jackson's "Steppin' Out": pure summer bliss.
