Mäander
a review by Stephen Fruitman ofrelease format Mäander by Kammerflimmer Kollektief (CD Album)
text
Thirteen tracks of noise-infected jazz (or jazz-infected noise), meandering between post-rock, free improvisation and dub electronic sensibilities. Melody, the stronghold of label mates Tied + Tickled Trio, is not so much forsaken by the Kammerflimmer Kollektief as submerged in washes of ebbing and flowing distortion. Leader Thomas Weber seems to subscribe to an aesthetic of implosion (indeed the second track is entitled "Implodiert"), wherein elements acoustic and electric are compressed into driving jams which eventually collapse upon themselves. Luckily, for the majority of this album, this is accomplished in an extremely refreshing manner. An album offering something a little different, mastered, for those keeping track, at Maurizio's Dubplates and Mastering Plant.
