Disco never really ended it just became a collector's music and then beat machines came along and it's sway found itself anew in dance. New Wave never really ended, it just went underground for awhile and began to pop back up in IDM and industrial. The Chap is a fine example of the later with eighties keyboards blending with mid-nineties IDM sounds and the occasional disco electronic strings. The Chap takes some cool electro-bass lines with a few rattles of the ol' glitch beat and lifeless Adult to Kraftwerk we're emotionless robots vocals. Music like this has to have a good backing to work, and The Chap's pseudo-rock fits this formula well with a motor-rock guitar providing that human element in a cleverly constructed automaton's world. It's all catchy and somehow danceable while still removed, cold, and distant. The directness of it's arrangements, and the skill behind the electronics is impressive. Makes you wonder what the full length is like, and if these folks can consistently hit the mark on geared clockworks that seem to be mysteriously human.
